Officer Kevin Donle has been assigned as the new fulltime School Resource Officer. Kevin has been a fulltime North Reading Police Officer since May of 2002. He was certified as a School Resource Officer in April of 2008 through the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO). Kevin has been a school liaison at both the Middle and High School since 2006. Kevin’s an active member of the Massachusetts Juvenile Police Officers Association.
“The School Resource Officer program is one part of a comprehensive and coordinated approach to school safety that depends on balanced and multi-faceted programming, strong school, law enforcement, and community stakeholder communication, fostering connectedness within the school community, and providing supports for at-risk students. The SRO can provide a link to the schools and the police department, foster communication and understanding with young citizens while at the same time proactively educating students regarding risk-taking behaviors. When issues arise at a school, the SRO can help mitigate disruption through early intervention. The SRO’s presence will help prompt rapid and positive response to various situations as they arise. I’m confident that Detective Kevin Donle will fill that role and provide additional resources to the school department in relation to his knowledge of the law and specialized training. Kevin will be assigned to the Police Detective Unit and will begin preparing for his new role over the next few months.”- Chief Murphy
